Information

You are cordially invited to attend a field day at Mill Hollow Christmas Tree Farm near Huntsville, Texas.

This field day is open to members of the TCTGA and also to those who are just investigating growing Christmas trees.

Mill Hollow Christmas Tree Farm is located in the scenic forested hills between Huntsville and Lake Livingston on US 190. They have been selling Christmas trees since 1986. The farm is choose and cut and targets Houston area families. Houston is 75 miles away.

Why should I go?

Mill Hollow is a "little" different from many Christmas tree farms. They had to be in order to survive and prosper 75 miles from Houston.

You will be made privy to what worked for them and also what failed. This will include advertising, getting Houston customers, developing loyal customers and providing the environment wanted by today's family.

They will also discuss the benefits and problems with their twelve year old October Outing festival, Christmas tree pre-selection, Houston delivery, weekend sales, the children's attractions and even their petting dog, Jude.

In the afternoon, you can enjoy a hayride to the haunted house and on they way see how they educate their customers on Christmas trees including pesticides and colorants.

They will also demonstrate some of their "in house" labor saving devices that makes a Christmas tree farmer's life a little easier.

Young children really enjoy Mill Hollow. Please feel free to bring them.

How about getting CEU credits needed to renew my pesticide license?

Eugene Hinze, Texas Department of Agriculture, will conduct a 1 CEU class.

Thinking about making jams, jellies and other canned food for sale?

Judy Martin, Martin Christmas Tree Farm, is licensed and has a commercial kitchen.  She will discuss her experience in setting up this kitchen and getting it licensed to make food for sale.  This will include the classes taken, kitchen requirements, state inspection and licensing.  If a state inspector can be found, we will also have him available to answer any questions you may have.

What is for lunch?

BBQ beef, chicken and pork with all of the fixin's will be on the menu for lunch. The cost of lunch is in the registration fee.
